I’ve just come up for air after 6 weeks of being completely immersed in BAND OF MAGICIANS. It was the most exciting and special time of my performance life thus far and I can’t wait to do it all over again. I want to thank everyone in Sydney that came out to see the show (many from interstate) – I appreciate you all greatly and am so thankful you have supported yet another show that I’m in. I’m thrilled to report that the show was a commercial and critical success and that we’ll be touring in the near future.

For those who didn’t get a chance to see it live, here’s a little insight and some pics.

I can’t wait to update with more news on the show in more detail.

Hi friends!

What a cracker of a year it has been. I arrived in Sydney last week to a plethora of magic ads, billboards and TV promo’s – not only for BAND OF MAGICIANS, but SO many magic shows. It truly is an exciting time to be a magician in Australia right now. I was honoured to be on the front cover of Spectrum in the Sydney Morning Herald this weekend as they discussed the new breed of magician. You can read the full story by Stephanie Bunbury here.

And to top it off…it’s Xmas! I LOVE being in Sydney this time of year with the family. I’m so grateful to be able to come home every year. Wherever you are and whatever you’re celebrating this holiday season, I want to wish you all a #bestdayever with those you love.

Much love,

James xo

If you’ve ever met me in person or spoken to me on the phone, you’ll know I’m excited by default. It has been a little tough trying to contain my ridiculous excitement over the last couple of weeks while rehearsing for BAND OF MAGICIANS. It’s truly an honour to be able to work with some of my best mates on a project which has been coming to boil over the last 6-12 months.

With less than 4 weeks till opening night, we’re absolutely boiling. I really cannot wait to be sharing this show with a home crowd for its world premiere in Sydney. If you haven’t booked tickets already, you should. The show was made for families, so bring the gang out for a great night (or day).

I’m privileged to be working with such incredibly talented magicians (Justin Willman, Nate Staniforth and Justin Flom) and my creative dream-team – Director, Craig Ilott (Smoke & Mirrors, Hedwig & The Angry Inch), Set Designer, Peter England (King Kong, Walking With Dinosaurs), Creative Consultant, Blake Vogt (David Copperfield, Dynamo, David Blaine), Film Director, Adam Scott-Franklin and thrilled to be working again with Sound Designer, Steve Francis (he’s done everything) and lighting designer, Matt Marshall (who I was lucky enough to work with on Lying Cheating Bastard).

See you in Sydney!

These last few weeks have been pretty full on. I’ve traveled more than I think I ever have and it has been nothing short of exhilarating. Here it is in point form…

– Our first week of rehearsals for ‘Band Of Magicians’ was more than exciting and I can’t wait to share the show with you (this is the band after we wrapped at my local Jones Bar).

– I went to North Carolina (had incredible pie), New York (got to finally meet up with Dan White and see Brooklyn), Las Vegas (where we shot new scenes for ‘Band Of Magicians’ with Justin Flom), LA, Dallas (where apparently it’s fine to smoke at restaurants still?), Sydney, Melbourne (had no time for pics) and now back in LA for what will be our last week of rehearsals for ‘Band Of Magicians‘.

– I took a 3 day trip to Sydney and Melbourne from LA for a show at Crown and to talk about all things ‘Band Of Magicians’ with the TODAY Show (Australia). Karl and Lisa were quite a lot of fun to play with (and as it turns out, Karl used to live a street away from me in West Hollywood!).

– I arrived at LAX at 9.30am in time to cook Thanksgiving dinner. I love this American Holiday so much and am very grateful I was able to share it with such amazing people.

If you’re in Australia, be sure to come see our show at Sydney Festival from 9th-19th January during its World Premiere.

Hey friends,

I’m really excited to be able to share the brand new trailer for ‘THE MAGICIAN’ (Directed by Adam Scott-Franklin). There were a lot of people working really hard to bring it to life, and I’m pumped to be able to share a little piece with you!

OMG OMG OMG! I’m sooooooo excited!!!

I can officially announce that the latest project I’m part of is going to have its World Premiere at the Sydney Festival in January 2014!!! Yaaaaay!!!

I’m joining forces with three of the brightest magicians on the planet and we’re combining all our skills and talents to create a magic and illusion show more extraordinary than the sum of its parts. It’s called…‘Band Of Magicians’.

I truly couldn’t be more pumped to be a part of it and hope you’ll come and see. I’m too excited to write any more right now, but will soon. Yay!

Watch the short promo here!

As a child I remember seeing ‘Field Of Dreams’ over and over and over again with my family. As a teenager it would make me feel that dreams really could come true. As an adult it makes me weep, the nostalgia beginning to take over from the second the pan flute from James Horner’s amazing score blows its first note. It’s a movie I know by heart, yet one of those rarities that can still make you feel every emotion you felt when you watched it for the first time (like Shawshank Redemption and Stand By Me for me)
So, it has always been a dream of mine to go to Iowa. Any American I tell this  to laughs at me, but I truly have wanted to go there ever since seeing the film. Luckily for me, brilliant magician and very close friend of mine, Nate Staniforth lives there. It just so happened, that I had to go out to shoot some footage in Iowa for a new show we’re doing together. Did you hear that…I HAD TO GO OUT TO IOWA! Yay!
It’s hard to share a dream being realised, but perhaps you can empathise sitting on the same wooden bench that Karen fell from looking out at the field. The Field hasn’t changed and is in perfect condition, like Kevin Costner just walked off the bleachers and James Earl Jones was sitting next to me saying ‘Basebaaaall’. I pitched a ball from the mound and said out lout “See if you can hit my curve… Yeah, you can hit the curve ball.”
Then, I couldn’t help being overwhelmed when I got to do this…
While I’ve been l
ucky enough to be living my dream for some time now, this truly was a #bestdayever.
And if it wasn’t already the most American day of my life, Nate’s wife baked me the greatest Apple Pie (from scratch) I’ve ever tasted.
Thanks for the memories Iowa.

Hey guys

SOOOOOO stoked to share this with you. I know many of you never got the chance to see my series ‘Urban Magic’ in Australia (and I actually forgot some of the fun pieces I created for the show myself) so am thrilled to be able to now share this with you. Also, for those who missed out on ‘Breaking Magic’/’Magic of Science’, we have some highlights.

I’ll stop talking now.  CLICK HERE FOR NEW MAGIC and tweet me or send me a message on FB to let me know what you think.

Cheers for the love,

Wow, a month between posts is a little ridiculous, but I’ve been working! This last four weeks, I got to travel to Sydney, Melbourne, New Zealand, Noumea, Vanuatu, Vegas and now I’m back home in LA. It’s so nice to be home.

There’s so much going on that I really don’t know where to start. So,here goes…

– this was my view for pretty much 6 weeks at sea. I also got to sail through most beautiful harbour in the world many times.

– Sydney was FREEEEZING but looked like this so it was okay.

– Figs and Heirloom Tomatoes are in season!!! Had such a good time making the most of them with mates.

– Went to Big Bear. It was incredible.

– Finished the final cut of the short film, now titled ‘The Magician’. It has been entered into Tropfest so I can’t show anyone till we find out what’s happening there. But it won’t be long now! Woo!

Abby is really sick and being away from her is terrible. I will see her in a month.

– Have had some incredible donuts and cronuts while back in LA. Wow.

– I have a new favourite sweater/jumper that I loved wearing to one of my favourite Diners. (who now follow me on twitter! Ha!!!) .

I’ll be doing shows in Virginia and Norther Cali this week and will update more frequently now that I’m back in the US.

Thanks for all your support and I hope you’re enjoying an amazing donut and having a #bestdayever wherever you are.
